Good News & Bad News

The good news is that we've hired a new Public Works Foreman for the village. 

The bad news is that we lost a valuable councilor on Village Council.

Councilor Dave McKenzie accepted the position of Public Works foreman - but unfortunately that meant he had to resign as councilor to prevent a conflict of interest.  The provincial Municipal Government Act is very clear on who can be a councilor and who can't.  Dave had been working for the village through a temporary contractual situation, but that ended as soon as we hired him as our new foreman. 

I'll miss Dave on Council.  His perceptions, thoughts and candor were appreciated  and will be greatly missed.  But we now have the opportunity to elect a new councilor in a byelection, coming in early April.

Beiseker Public Works Steps Up!

The Village of Beiseker lost its Public Works Foreman just before Christmas.  That's the bad news.

The good news is that our remaining Public Works Department has stepped up to the plate and is working hard to make sure everything that needs to be done gets done!  There's been some challenges, too!  A couple of persistent water main breaks have had to be dealt with and snow removal is an ongoing challenge. 

We are advertising for applications for a new Public Works Foreman right now.  That competition ends next week.

My compliments to our Public Works staff for stepping up to keep Beiseker rolling.  Well done!  And thank you to all residents for your patience and understanding.

Public Works Foreman's Position

Beiseker is on the hunt for a new Public Works Foreman!

Responsibilities of the job are many and varied.  It will take us some time to preview all applications, short-list candidates, interview those shortlisted, and then choose the most appropriate candidate for the job.  The advertisement was posted in municipal and local media, with the competition closing at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. 

We are urging all who have the qualifications to apply to the Village Office.  Please include your updated resume.  The detailed posting is available, here.

In the meantime, the Village Office has assumed leadership of Public Works Office, with our Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) specifically acting as Public Works Foreman/Supervisor in the interim.   We are very fortunate to have a very competent and willing Public Works staff on the job!  So far, they have proven themselves very capable of handling the chores in the village.
