Year-End 2018! Happy New Year!

I'm back!  I've not contributed anything to my blog in a very long time, but I'm going to try to change that today.

Here goes!

STOP!  I don't know in who in Beiseker decided it was a good idea to install stop signs on the First Avenue extension where it crosses the CN tracks, or why.  Visibility is great there.  You can easily see a train coming!

It certain situations (such as fog) it might be harder to see a train already on the crossing, especially if the cars are dirty and the reflectors aren't showing up in your headlights.

Perhaps it's an insurance liability thing; if you hit a train there, it's your own fault because you ran a stop sign.  In my opinion, a more sensible solution to the issue would be the installation of warning signs 50 metres from the crossing warning motorists that they're approaching an uncontrolled railway crossing.

Christmas Cheer!  I don't know if it's my imagination, but the village appears to be decorated far more for Christmas than in past years!  I'm glad I wasn't chosen to judge the annual Christmas Light Display contest!  It must have been a very difficult job picking the best of so many beautiful displays.  In my mind you're all winners!

Here's a special shout-out to the Village of Beiseker!  Their display is extra-beautiful this year!  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Ho Ho Ho! Here's a big thank you to the volunteer firefighters of the Beiseker Fire Department who spent much of their Christmas Eve driving Santa up and down every street in Beiseker!  Their noisy little procession makes Christmas in the village just that much more special!

I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year!

Twelfth Night of Christmas!

Here we are at the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas; Twelfth Night.  January Sixth marks the end of this Christmas season.  I hope yours was a happy and merry one.  A vicious head cold took some of the celebration out of me and I was generous enough to share it with my wife!  This Christmas was a sniffly but quiet one in our house!

Congrats to the Dyer, Doepker and Bye families and to Beiseker Home Hardware, Skyview Inn B&B, and CHS Dynagra for winning the Beiseker Christmas Light Contest.  Well done, all of you!

Now we start packing up Christmas and settling down to a "normal" January.  I hope that if you made a New Year's Resolution, you made a realistic one.  Never set yourself up for failure.  Have fun with it and good luck meeting those goals.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

New Years Eve, 2015!

Here we are on the Seventh Day of Christmas - New Year's Eve.  I am pleased to announce that the Beiseker Hamper Program 2014 helped 23 local families over this Christmas season.

Here's a big "Thank You" to Village Assistant CAO Gail Peckham and her happy gang of Christmas elves who worked so very hard to assemble and distribute those hampers.  Another "Beiseker Pat On the Back" goes to all those donors who make it all possible!

I have been fighting a huge head cold all week so just staying awake until midnight will be a challenge for me, but I hope you all have a very happy and safe New Years celebration.  And please don't drink and drive.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

What a Night!

From all the reports I'm getting from those who attended the Beiseker New Year's Gala, it was a roaring success!  All have said it was an excellent evening!

My wife and I had other plans in the making for many months and could not attend.  Putting an event like that together is a HUGE amount of work!  My compliments go out to all those volunteers who basically gave up much of their holiday season to make sure it was a success.

Later this year, we need to meet together as a community to ensure this event will continue!  Thank you again to all those who worked so hard to bring in 2013!

Happy New Year!

News Year's Gala Set To Go!

If you're still looking for a great celebration of the coming of 2013, check out the Beiseker Community Centre!

That's right, the B.U.M.S. (aka the Beiseker Urban Motorcycle Society or Squad) are holding their second annual New Year's Eve Gala featuring the band Blakkstone Hexx!  This band has recently received rave reviews in the Airdrie media!

The fun starts early and tickets are available at the door.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, 2011!

I take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Happy New Year! The First real weekend of the new year really blew in a storm for Beiseker! Public Works is busy moving snow out of the way so that traffic can move. I think they've been going almost continuously since the storm let up. Well done Bill and crew!

A hearty thank-you goes to those Beiseker residents who helped stranded motorists over the weekend at the Beiseker Community Centre. We had over 40 "special guests" in town thanks to the blizzard. Most managed to resume their journeys by Sunday afternoon. Again we showed Beiseker to be the "Friendly Village"!

A reminder to all that we have a snow removal bylaw here in Beiseker. The public sidewalk in front of your home must be cleared after a snowfall.

Council is still working on our water problems. We still have yet to figure out why Beiseker is buying twice as much water from the Kneehill system than Irricana! Is it a metering error or a major leakage, or maybe a combination. We've got to find out! We're starting our investigation at the #2 Pumphouse (on the south side of ninth street where it meets the CNR tracks) and moving out from there. Stay tuned!
